The Extreme Kapa Haka

On Monday after school we went to Kerikeri High to watch my big sister perform. We had to be there by six thirty pm to watch them perform. My nana and papa came along to watch my sister. My nana, papa, mum and my sister went in and the kids were practising. They came in and their kapa haka tutor was saying how their nana Blossom passed. The shell horn went off and they said the same karakia like we do and I actually got to say it. It was really fun because we got to see Troy Kingi’s son.  It was really funny because some actions they were doing were pretty weird. I loved watching my sister perform but then  I looked over my shoulder and I saw my nana crying and I got pretty sad. Have you ever performed on stage to do Kapa Haka and how was it?

Mind Blowing T- Ball

This term in Te Ngahere we have been learning how to play T-Ball. The rules for T-ball are you hit the ball  off the T and you have to run to base one. A wonderful woman teaches  us how to play T-ball, Her name is KC, you might have heard of her before, she is very nice.  If the fielders catch the ball before you get to base one, then that's an out. Then the fielders get a point. If you get to the base before they catch the ball you’re safe. There are three bases  you have to run to,  the first base, then the second base, then the third base and you have to make it to the home base before it’s too late and then you  get a point. I really enjoy T-ball and my favorite bit about T-ball is hitting the ball and running to the bases.

Have you ever heard  of T-ball before?

Nga Tohu Huarere

For the last couple of  weeks in Te Ngahere we've been making New Zealand weather reports but in Te Reo Maori. Before we made our weather report we had to get into pairs and my buddy’s name was Yazmin. First we had to follow the success criteria and make a script. We had to chose six places around New Zealand so Yazmin and I picked Kaikoura, Tāmaki - Makaurau (Auckland), Ōtautahi (Christchurch), Te - Papa - i - ōea  (Palmerston North), Taupō, and Whanganui a Tara (Wellington). After we had done our script we made a little animation. We used funko pop to create our characters.  We had to have a map of New Zealand but the places names had to be in Te Reo Maori. We made our screencastify and there were some problems but then we got it done.  Do you think Te Reo maori should be our first language in New Zealand or second?

Our Fabulous Fantastic Cross Country!

Last term we had a whole school event which was CROSS COUNTRY! Some people met the school down at Bledisloe Domain. My sisters and my mum took me down and I was so scared. At first it was cold and I didn’t want to get out of my car but I had to. Some of the teachers came with some of the students and then the bus came and all the little kids looked so excited BUT I WASN’T! When they all hopped off the bus we sat down on the mat and listened to one of our special teachers that organised it all for us. After that  they called the five year olds for there race and they looked all confused about what they should be doing. We all waited until the ten year old girls were called up. I was so nervous and I heard the countdown. I was ready for it. THREE, TWO, ONE, GO! I ran and was in front of everyone  like a cheetah, when I crossed the finish line I was so proud of myself because I came 1st place.Do you like Cross Country?

The Mind Blowing Cricket

Today in Te Ngahere we had a person that visited our school and taught us cricket skills . I don’t really like cricket . The first thing he did was tell us the rules about cricket and how to hold the bat. We had to get into pairs, one person had to catch the ball and the other had to hit it with the bat. I was the one that had to catch the ball and it wasn’t that easy. We started playing a game that he taught us and it was called Speed Cricket. We had numbers and I was in group one and my partner Yazmin was in group two.  My group had to hit the ball first and when it was my turn I was very scared and nervous. I didn’t hit it very high but it was good enough for me and I was very proud of myself. It was almost morning tea time so we had to go back to class and I actually had a great time.  Do you like cricket?

My Fabulous Fantastic HOLIDAY!

My cousins  came up from Auckland for the holidays. When they came up we all went fishing for the day. We got into groups of three to see which team could catch the most fish and the biggest. We didn't use fishing rods because there wasn’t enough, so we used hand lines. I was so excited and nervous because my cousin Ethan was the master at fishing.  We all put our hand lines in and I got  lots of  little tiny bites, then one big bite but then the fish swam away. We decided to pack up because we all got nothing. Do you like fishing?

The Incredible Mind Blowing Maths DLO!

This week in Te Ngahere we've been working in groups of three and two for our maths. We are learning  about Grandfather clocks and Pendulums . The people that are included in my group are Yazmin and Isabella. Pondering Pendulums is the name of the work that we are doing. We had to make a pendulum by making it with string and a fishing sinker but instead we used a rock. A full swing is when a pendulum moves from one side to the other.  We had to measure the string of the Pendulum, because we had to try different lengths of the string for the first investigation. Here is the DLO we made hope you enjoy. Do you like Grandfather clocks?

Our Mind Blowing Mahi Toi

This week in Te Ngahere we've been doing some Mahi Toi (Art). Our goals were to draw continuous lines, draw curves, rule straight lines, select colours for effect and blend colours. The class had to watch a video for straight lines and drawing with our shoulders not with our wrist. We had to practice our designs and blending with colored pencils. Would you like to be an artist when your older?

The Extreme Te Reo Māori

This week in Te Ngahere we've been learning new Te Reo Māori kupu. We are learning how  to make a weather report about the weather here in Paihia. It was  very hard to pronounce some kupu properly. We got to play Ika and memory  with Te Reo cards about the weather and how to say the kupu . I love learning new kupu in Te Reo because it’s a very special language to New Zealand. Here is a slideshow with what the weather report is in Paihia normally. Have you said a weather report in Te Reo Māori?

The people that are included in my group is Yazmin and Isabella. Judgment Calls  is the name of the work that we are doing. It was very fun and interesting because we had to get a rock, string and swing it for 1 second, as well we made a mini trundle wheel that measures 0.5 metres with every complete turn.   I hope you really enjoyed my maths DLO.  Have you learnt about Mass,  Length, Distance and time before?

The Extreme Poster and Mosaic Art

This week in Te Ngahere we've been making posters, animations and mosaic art for one of our amazing teachers, Whaea Becks, she went on a long holiday. She was snowboarding in the South Island but she got very hurt and broke her pelvis, she was on crutches for a little bit. I made two things for her, a puppy mosaic art and a poster about kindness to make her feel better. I hope she really likes what I made for her, I think that she will like it because she loves dogs and puppies and I think she would love my poster. Here is my poster and mosaic art I made for her. Have you done anything similar before?

The Extreme Rocket Launch

Last week as well this week in Te Ngahere we've been launching rockets.  The reason why we are launching rockets is because it’s for the Wonder Project. I have a group of three with my two with my friends Fern, Yazmin and I.  Our rocket is made out of  1.5 litre plastic bottles and cardboard for our fins.  You are probably thinking our rockets go up to space but no just in the air.  Troy is a engineer and Gustavo  is a pomologist they come in every Wednesday, they get to see our rockets launch but not everyday. Have you made a rocket before?

The Extreme Kawa Of Care

Last week in Te Ngahere were learning the Kawa Of Care. We had to create a DLO, animation, Posters, slideshows about the Kawa Of Care. I really think that everybody should have a case for the chromebook and computers. If you are eating and drinking next to your chromebook  lets say a fizzy tips on your chromebook then you WON'T! get insurance. As well if your holding your chromebook with one hand and  you pretend to chuck it in the air your not going to get insurance because you have to hold your chromebook with two hands.  Have you had insurance on your chromebook before?

Fantastic Mosaic Art

Last week in Te Ngahere we were learning how to do mosaic art. The point of doing this was to make it look realistic and use their natural colours. At first I didn’t know much about mosaic art. I learnt that mosaic art is different shapes but they aren’t to close together. I also learnt that mosaic is a popular art. We did art like this  in lockdown. We had to pick an animal or a person that inspires you or  food and I picked a red and orange fox. I really liked how my mosaic art turned out but you really couldn’t see the paws on my fox. The easiest part was the eyes and the hardest part was the paws. Have you done mosaic art before?

Super Duper Fitness

Kia ora guys, Yesterday we did fitness on our school field, the point of our fitness is to keep fit and keep our body moving so were nice and healthy. I’m very excited for cross country and this fitness really helps my moving. Whaea shanna put 5 cones on the field and each cone had different fitness moves we had to do. The fitness moves were mountain climbing, squat jumps, crab walks, sit ups and ski jumps. The hardest one was mountain climbing and the easy one was crab walks.  We swapped our fitness moves and moved around the over cones. I love fitness so much and our wonderful teacher does it all for us. As well we got to listen to music and we got to pick a playlist. Do you have fitness or play games?

There's this boy called Miguel and he loves music so much but his family hated it and they banned it from there lives. I love that movie so much as well on the second of the last day. We watched the Little Rascals and that movie is so funny. Have you watched Coco or the Little Rascals before?

Te Ngahere Amazing Tik Tok

Last Friday Te Ngahere learned two Tik tok dances. These two amazing year eights got us up they  taught us two Tik tok dances. I really like dancing but the  timing was very confusing. It  took us two weeks to practice this dance because everyone doesn't do Tik tok in my class. We all got the dance memorised in our head and then we knew it. After that the two year eights taught us another Tik tok dance. This time it was easy. We all learnt it in one day but they changed it up and it was hard. Here is the Tik tok video hope you enjoy the Tik tok dance. Have you done Tik tok at school before?

My Awesome Angles

This week in Te Ngahere we have been learning about Angles . We have been measuring angles and learning their names. It’s so much fun as well. I know what a 90 degree angle is. I've been working with my friend Jade we've been making a screencastify. This time it’s not about fractions it’s about angels. Obtuse angle and reflex angle was very hard but acute angle, straight angle, right angle and full rotation was easy. Jade and I will tell you how many degrees the angles are in the video. I hope you liked our screencastify as well our maths DLO. Have you done angles?

My Amazing Poupou Art

Kia ora this week in Te Ngahere we have been doing art and the type of art is poupou. We had to practice first on a A4 paper to sketch it out. When I finished my practice copy I went on my A3 paper which is bigger than the A4 paper. We had to sketch it again for our good copy the same as our other copy. It didn’t take me that long to sketch my poupou on the good copy but when it came to the vivid I was shaking a lot. After that I went on my pastels we had a colour wheel to pick our colours. I picked cool colours like green, blue, purple, yellow green and violet. For my mouth it was hard because we had to sketch a wide heart but the easiest was my body shape and my nose. For my background it’s warm colours like red, orange and yellow I hope you enjoyed my Have you sketched a poupou before?

Our Amazing Terrific Fractions

This week we have been learning our fractions. Jade and I love learning about fractions  sometimes it gets a little tricky but it's fun.  We keep learning and learning our factions we want to do more everyday but we can’t. If you don’t know what numerator and denominator is. The numerator tells you what is left and the denominator tells you how much was in the whole set. Here is a video you can watch I hope you enjoyed learning with us.

Mind Blowing Chain Domino Effect Trick Shot

This week at school we have been doing another trick shot. It’s called chain domino effect we had to use our creative minds. We made a group of three here is the people in my group Yazmin, Fern and me. We had lots of ideas but my group and I didn’t think it would work. So since it is a domino effect we got our school stationery and some cardboard. We put the table and the desk together and set it up. First we put the domino effect up on the desk, we put glue sticks, a rubber and a highlighter.  We put the cardboard on the side of the desk then we put some more cardboard on the chair. So since the glue stick can’t knock itself over we put a rubber on top of it. The ball was at the end of the highlighter and we made a slide with the cardboard. We knocked the rubber then all the pens came down and the ping pong ball went i the egg cartoon and IT WORKED! We were so happy it worked. Here is a video you can watch. Have you tried something similar to this?

Our Amazing Mind Blowing Trick Shot

This week at school we have been doing this challenge called trick shot. We made a group
of five people and used our creative minds. We made so many mistakes here is one we made. We had a idea we were going to bounce  the ping pong ball off the picnic table and down our cardboard creation and into the cup but it didn’t work for a while. We kept on doing it and IT WORKED! We were so happy it worked but Whea Shanna came and told us it had to be 3 seconds. Well it wasn't 3 seconds exactly but it was 1 or 2 seconds. So we made another fantastic cardboard creation. So we got the box and cut it in half and taped the sides on the box and then we were ready to try that again. !IT  FINALLY WORKED!  It was 3 second straight. The strategy that were thinking about was the same person that bounced the ball will stay there as well the cardboard person. Have you tried to do this with a ping pong ball?

My Amazing Terrific Math Eyes

WALT  Yesterday we were learning how  to use our maths eyes identify maths in the world around us.

In Te Ngahere we have been looking around with our  math eyes like pattern shapes and  what's the odd one out. We have been learning to see what patterns we could see in the gingerbread men. I learnt how to use my math eyes and actually looked around and see all those patterns and shapes. The strategy is really good to use your math eyes because you can actually see things. Do you have math eyes?

Turbo Touch

In Te Ngahere we have been doing Turbo Touch. You have to use teamwork so you WIN!

When the coach says open you start running to your goal and try get a point. If you drop the ball you hand it over to the other team. If the girls get a goal your team will get double points. So lucky me I’m a girl and I get DOUBLE POINTS! Most of the boys have girls on their team so they can win the game. At the end of the day we had so much fun and if you didn’t win then it’s alright, at least you had a great time.

The Ngahere

Yesterday Te Ngahere went for a walk up in the bush. Before we entered the track we all washed our shoes because we could bring in a disease. We went in our groups that we got told to and went on the track. It was very quiet then we heard some birds singing. Fern asked Gina what bird it was Gina said it was a tui. We saw some spider webs it was a weird shape. There was a little waterfall full of fresh water with little fish. There was a tree that looked like there were mushrooms on it but Gina said it wasn’t mushrooms. Then Jade saw a type of fungi she keep on touching it she said it was kinda fluffy. I enjoyed it because it was peace and quiet and you could hear the birds.  It was a very good walk because there was lots of stuff to look at.
